Looking For Somewhere To Moor Your Canal Boat? Look no further!

Venetian marina currently has moorings available and can accommodate your narrowboat up to 60ft. We are located in Cholmondeston, just outside the market town of Nantwich in Cheshire.

The marina is surrounded by breath-taking country side and is ideally located on The Middlewich Branch of the Shropshire Union Canal which links into The Four Counties Ring, which consists of  the English counties of Cheshire, Staffordshire, Shropshire and the West Midlands, providing an amazing circular cruising route.

A huge advantage of mooring at Venetian Marina is the choice of varied routes for short or longer cruises.

The Middlewich Branch of the Shropshire Union Canal, is a very attractive canal located between BarBridge Junction and Middlewich.

Interesting places you will pass on this route include;

Beginning your adventures from Venetian Marina, turning right out of the marina you will head towards Middlewich and join the Trent Mersey Canal. To the north of Middlewich you will pass Preston Brook and onto the Bridgewater Canal, or turning south you will head down towards Kidsgrove and the Harecastle Tunnel.

Alternatively, turning left you will head towards the Junction of the Shropshire Union Canal (Main) at Bar Bridge junction. Then south on to Nantwich which is a lovely old market town with many half-timbered houses.. At Audlem there is a well stocked canal shop in the old mill ideal for a spot of shopping and stocking up. You'll also find many canal side pubs to visit and one even has a narrowboat shaped bar.

On your way towards Market Drayton you can work up an appetite as you’ll tackle a lengthy flight of 15 narrow locks. Then cruise through arable land and deep cuttings and enjoy the countryside. You will cross Watling Street on a fine aqueduct and the canal then enters Brewood.

At Autherley, you turn onto a much older canal the Staffordshire and Worcestershire Canal, taking you onto the marvelous expanse of Tixall Wide At Great Haywood, you turn onto the Trent & Mersey Canal. This has relatively few locks before reaching the famous brewing town of Stone.

A stop can be made at the Wedgwood Pottery Museum - lots to learn and see here. The tunnel keeper at Harecastle Tunnel will see you safely through this lengthy edifice before you start the descent via many locks to Middlewich. The infamous locks of 'Heartbreak Hill' are twenty-six locks in seven miles, meaning six or seven hours hard work. However you do not need to complete all 26 in one go!

Then cruise on to Middlewich, truing left onto the Shropshire Branch canal and complete your journey back at Venetian Marina.
